Teams overview
bssh Teams shares connections with the people you work with. Everyone gets the same hosts in bssh and in the desktop app, and nobody has to pass server lists around in a chat or a wiki.
Shared connections are encrypted on your device before they leave it. The sync server stores only ciphertext and a small amount of metadata: it never sees hostnames, users or tags, and it is never in the path of your SSH connections.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- Each device has its own keys. Setting up Teams creates a signing key and an encryption key on your machine, protected by a passphrase. They never leave the device.
- A team has one key. An admin gives it to each new device after checking that device’s fingerprint, so the server cannot slip in a device of its own.
- Entries are encrypted locally. Sharing a connection encrypts it with the team key. The server stores the result and passes it on.
- Teammates decrypt locally. Each sync pulls new entries, verifies who wrote them, and adds them to your host list as
name@team. - Connections are audited. Connecting to a team host records a signed, hash-chained event. Admins can verify the whole log on their own machine.
What is shared
Section titled “What is shared”A shared connection carries its host, user, port, bastion, Kerberos setting and tags.
These are never shared:
- Keys, key paths and passwords. Each person connects with their own credentials or agent.
- Your device keys and passphrase.
- Session recordings and terminal output. They stay on your machine.
- Connections you don’t share. Personal hosts stay in your local database.
- Free: on the hosted service, every team has 3 seats for free, with all features.
- Paid: for more seats, an admin subscribes for the whole team, billed per seat, monthly or yearly.
- Self-hosted: run the sync server yourself; seats per team are set by the operator.
